Summary of Vocal Club

This club is a place where students can express themselves and have fun. You do not have to know how to sing or know what you are doing, you just have to be willing to try. This club is a no judgement zone where you just show up and sing - solo or with others. This club also has the expectations of performing at the showcase and showing off their talent. Vocal club is mainly about gathering a group of people together, who share a common hobby and expressing themselves through singing and music.

    Typography Sightings

This is a picture of a Mac Book Pro keyboard. This typeface is under the San Serif. This typeface is used for informing the user of which key is which letter. This typeface is very easy to read. This typeface is very appropriate for the keyboard because it is easy to read and there is nothing decorative distracting the user. This typeface was found on my computer.

This typeface is categorized under San Serif. This typeface is used to inform people in the subway of the rules that should be followed. Because this typeface is very easy to read, it informs everyone without any complications. People do not have to work very hard to read the signs.

The typeface of the brand is Decorative and the label for what drink it is, is San Serif. The brand is a different typeface because Seagram has its signature typeface that gives the drink an old vibe. The label of what the drink is, is in San Serif because it is very easy to read and the consumer will not get the different types of soda mixed up. These typefaces are appropriate because one is to show the consumer what the brand is and the other is to easily inform the consumer. This was found when I was drinking a Ginger Ale at lunch.

This is another sign that is informing people of the rules. The typeface is in San Serif and was found at Pier 25. This typeface is appropriate for the usage because it is supposed to be an easy font to read and simple enough that anyone could read it. Also the Hudson River Park always has easy to read signs.

This is a Tiffany & Co jewelry pouch, that I own. The brand name is in Old Style because it has some serifs and has a difference of thickness. Also this is Tiffany & Co's signature typeface that they always use when they label their jewelry, boxes, or pouches. This is an appropriate typeface because it looks elegant and this brand is very elegant and high-class.

This is an inspirational quote that I found on my coffee cup from a place called Why Not on Gay and 9th Street. This typeface is script, which adds an elegant and high-class feel. The place that I get my coffee is very nice and executed perfectly, so it makes sense that their typeface is script. Script is precise and well executed.

Reflection on Letter to Symbol Project

While using Gimp, what was most frustrating aspect of the program and/or project? (Ex. Gimp Tools, translating sketch to design, creating transitional layers, etc.)
The most challenging aspect of Gimp was getting to know/using the tools. Sometimes I did not know which one I was using so then I would have to re-do my drawing because I did not like the way it looked. Also sometimes I would forget to highlight the layer that I wanted to draw on, and then I would be erasing something important. These things were just so frustrating because it would cause me to have to re-do/do more work.

After completing the project, which Gimp tools do you feel most confident in using? Explain why.
I feel most confident using the paintbrush because I am good at manipulating the size and shape of the brush. I really liked it because I was able to use the brush for many different parts of my Gif. This tool was easy to use and had SO many purposes.

Which Gimp Tool do you wish you were better at using? Explain why.
I wish I was better at using the lasso tool because then I could have had more curved lines. I was used to just selecting circles and then outline it. But it would have been so much easier to use the lasso tool to make curved lines.

What would you like to create with Gimp next?
I think that if I ever use Gimp again I would like to manipulate a picture. I would like to change a picture that many people know of and change it to something funny or strange. I think that Gimp could be a program that I will use off and on for different creative projects.

    Name Design Reflection

    1.  Describe the design process in the name design project. How was it helpful or not helpful for you?
This reflection time is when we describe our madness/reasoning for things. When I first herd that we were going to make a design that had our name in it, I thought of making block/bubble letters that I love to do. Then I read on the rubric that there had to be a design and we could only use two colors (black and a color). I have three people in my direct family, mother, father, and me. So that it where the triangle came in and also a triangle is easy to draw with a ruler. It was helpful being able to create many drafts, but it was not helpful having to second guess myself and changing the slightest thing. Sometimes I think that multiple drafts is more confusing than helpful.

    2. How does the name design represent you? What components did you use to visually tell the viewer about yourself? (Composition, font style, images, symbols, colors, etc)
This name design represents me by including triangles, the color purple, and my block letters that I love to write. I have three direct family members, my mother, father, and me. So every point of the triangle is a family member. Also my favorite color is a dark purple and that is why I chose to incorporate that as my only color. When Iadd geometric shapes I like them be really close to each other to a point where they are almost touching but there is a small white line separating them. I think it makes it look more like a cohesive pattern.

    3.  How did you create a focal point or emphasis in your design?
My focal point was created by leaving my name completely blank. Everywhere around my name is triangles that are colored in. Leaving my name white while everything is either black or purple makes it the center of attention. Also having the first outer layer black triangles centers in the name, then as you look out towards the edge you see the mixture of black and purple.

    4.  What was the most difficult part of this project for you? Why?
The most difficult part if this project was having multiple drafts. When I know what I want it usually make sure I get it. I am very determined and head strong, which I also need to work on, but I think that art is where you can be head strong because art represents your own style. I usually do not like getting input from other people when the project is supposed to be about one person.

    5. Are you satisfied with your project? Explain your answer.
I am really happy with my project. I like the way I have the triangles and how my name is the focal point. I think that although I did not like the input it has helped because I would not have heavily outlined my name or brought the triangles to the edge. Overall, I am very satisfied and hope that the other projects are equally as satisfying.

    6. If  you can change anything, what would you change?
I would probably not use pencil to draft and just draw it with sharpie, only because then I would not see the lines under the purple and have to erase all the pencil-I usually do not follow lines when tracing or cutting, it takes a lot of patients.

    My Very First Entry!

    Hey everyone!
Here's my first blog entry! Enjoy...

What is your experience with Graphic Design?
I have some experience with graphic design. I love to create my own letter headings and invitations. I thing that when I make designs on a computer it is graphic design. I love using MAC computers and I know from people who are professional graphic designers that they are good with the graphic design programs. SO... I have some experience, but I'm hoping to gain more experience that eventually turns into a hobby!

Why is graphic design valuable to learn?

Graphic design is valuable to learn because you can always do freelancing for people who need custom invitations or letter headings. Also I believe that if you are ever bored you could create a design quickly and easily.

What is your favorite font type?  Post an image or an example.

My favorite font type is Helvetica. I love the neat thin lines and the way that it looks when you write an entire essay.

    Ella Perkins

What are your expectations for this course this year?

My expectations for this course are just to learn something new. To finish lots of projects that I enjoy and to learn the basics of graphic design so that I could possibly do it for freelancing.
